Former Rangers and Scottish player Neil McCann criticizes striker Alfredo Morelos for a “lazy” performance during their 2-0 loss to Aberdeen.
The stinging criticism from Neil McCann came after Rangers were beaten by the Dons, leaving Old Firm rivals Celtic on the cusp of clinching yet another Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers headed to Pittodrie aiming to extend their recent good form at Aberdeen’s home ground.
However, a lackluster performance meant they returned to Glasgow empty-handed. After a scoreless first half, the home side took the lead just three minutes into the second half when Liam Scales’ cross sailed over Allan McGregor.
The points were sealed just before the hour mark when Bojan Miovski survived a VAR review for offside to net his side’s seventh straight win.
While the title already appeared destined for Celtic, Rangers’ defeat at Aberdeen now sees them trail their bitter rivals by 13 points with only five games left this season.
Analyzing Rangers’ poor display, ex-winger McCann believes Morelos’ “lazy” showing handed the initiative to Aberdeen.
Speaking to BBC Sportscene, Neil McCann said:
"“Jonny Hayes makes it difficult for Tavernier. Scales knows Morelos isn’t going to run him in the channels so he can afford to be really aggressive and go and press him. Morelos should be holding that up, it’s lazy from him, waiting on it. Scales it right on top of him and sometimes you deserve a wee bit of luck.”"
Rangers now take a break from league play next weekend when they face Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final.
