Rangers are facing a dilemma over the future of playmaker Ianis Hagi. The 24-year-old Romanian endured a wretched year on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury last season.
Though now back in the first-team fold, Hagi is still working his way back to full fitness and rediscovering his top form.
However, according to reports in Spain, Hagi has emerged as a target for La Liga side Celta Vigo.
The club have been alerted to Hagi’s situation by Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting advisor Luis Campos.
With Hagi still short of sharpness, his situation presents a conundrum for Rangers’ management.
The Ibrox side can continue to nurse Hagi back to fitness in the hope he can eventually make a telling contribution.
But with the pressure ratcheted up on the club to succeed, relying on Hagi when he’s below par is a gamble. Hagi has even been left out of Romania’s latest squad, his nation citing his lack of fitness.
Rangers consider selling Hagi to finance Tillman deal
Rangers are also keen to finance other deals, notably their attempts to sign Bayern Munich loanee Malik Tillman on a permanent basis.
Reports claim it may cost £5 million to land the American midfielder, who plays in the same position as Hagi. However, other outlets say there is still negotiation to be done on Tillman’s fee.
If Rangers can bank £3 million from Celta Vigo for Hagi – the same fee they paid for him and touted in media speculation – it may help subsidise Tillman’s capture.
After all, only one of Hagi or Tillman is currently making a telling contribution to Rangers’ first XI.
