Michael Beale refused to lavish praise on Todd Cantwell despite the Rangers playmaker’s starring role in Saturday’s 5-2 demolition of St Mirren.
Cantwell opened the scoring at Ibrox with a close-range finish and teed up substitute Scott Arfield for the fifth late on, earning the man-of-the-match award from supporters.
However, Beale insists there is significantly more to come from the January signing from Norwich City.
"“Todd’s playing well. There’s more to come,” the Light Blues manager said. “I’m going to stay on him and make sure we get the player that is within him — one that he deserves to show everyone will ultimately help Rangers moving forward.”"
Todd Cantwell shines but Beale wants more
Beale wants the 24-year-old to be more selfish in front of goal, adding:
"“When he’s in and around the box, I’d like to see him put his laces through one or two and not be so soft in his shooting.”"
But he acknowledged Todd Cantwell and fellow new boy Nicolas Raskin, brought in from Standard Liege, have already made a big impact.
"“You want your players that you bring in to have a big impact on the team,” Beale said. “With Nico, you can see he blows up a bit physically. He’s just a young boy but puts so much effort in to his game. Todd’s the same. They’re not only good footballers but they energise the rest of the team. I’m looking for those two to kick on even further.”"
