Rangers manager Michael Beale revealed that midfield dynamo Ryan Jack is battling a knee injury that ruled him out of Saturday’s league fixture against St Mirren.

The combative Scotland international has been in inspired form recently but now faces a race against time to be fit for the Scottish Cup semi-final clash with bitter rivals Celtic on April 30th.

Speaking ahead of the match against St Mirren, Beale expressed his desire for Rangers to start strongly but confirmed Jack’s knee trouble and bruising for winger Ryan Kent.

"“Important we start strongly. I’m looking for a good performance,” Beale said. “We have a really attacking, front-foot team. We want Nico and the full-backs joining the attack. Ryan Jack has a slight problem with his knee. Ryan Kent has bruising.”"

The news will come as an unwelcome blow for Jack, whose future at Ibrox remains up in the air with his contract set to expire soon.

While Beale is known to appreciate the 31-year-old midfielder, Jack’s worrisome injury record is an obvious concern. Any new deal for the combative player should account for this fact.

For now, all eyes are on Jack’s fitness for the mammoth cup clash with Celtic. The match is a must-win for Rangers if they want to salvage anything from a tough season.

Jack would undoubtedly be one of the first names on Beale’s team sheet for the powderkeg derby if fit and firing. Along with central defender Connor Goldson, Jack faces an anxious wait to determine if he will play any part.

Rangers fans will hope that their midfield enforcer and fan favourite is able to shake off this latest setback to help mastermind victory over their bitter rivals.

After a start stop season, a fully fit Jack could make all the difference in the season finale. The countdown is on.
