Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has had his head turned since the rumours of a transfer to Lile first surfaced, now it appears a Portugese League future might be possible instead.
It’s really hard to get the motivation to write about Alfredo Morelos. I mean really, he’s still at the club, barely, and no team has yet to meet his valuation. It’s the international break, so Rangers aren’t playing football, but even if it wasn’t he still wouldn’t be playing football for Rangers. He’d be sat there, either the dugout or the stands, with his sourpuss watching either the game or his phone.
And that’s that, or is it? Morelos is still popular, certainly enough to have his name thrown out on the rumor mill on a daily basis. Strikers are an expensive, and rare, commodity, particularly good ones – goals are ultimately worth more than anything else in football – and Alfredo has proven he can perform on a reasonably high level, so why not?

One of the more credible rumours I’ve seen kicking about was a new found interest in the Gers star by Porto, fresh off losing Fabio Silva to Wolves for £35 million. Yes, you read that right, Wolves just paid £35m for a player with no more than 6 professional footballing appearances. Kinda puts that £20million valuation Rangers made on Morelos in context, doesn’t it?
Seems like COVID-19 may be affecting many things, but transfer fees isn’t one of them. Anywhere between £85-100m for Kai Havertz forked over by Chelsea, fully in “win now” mode, to Bayer Leverkusen is the proof of the pudding.
He’s been a star for Rangers, controversial or otherwise, and we’d all like to retain the fond memories rather than the sour
Nonetheless, according to the Daily Record, Porto have been impressed by Morelos from the Europa League matches between Leverkusen and Rangers earlier in the year. He plays in completely differently to Silva, but hey, if they’ve got the interest and the cash then that’s not our problem.
Morelos, as we’ve talked about before, has been called out by Steven Gerrard for “taking his eye off the ball”, that’s never a particularly great sign. He wants away, consciously or not, and Rangers have already signed two in his position this window, Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten, with Jermain Defoe ostensibly due to return from injury too. The writing is basically on the wall, he may never start for Rangers again.
With that said, it’d be nice if this rumour was a bit more than a rumour and we could all move on from Alfredo Morelos. He’s been a star for the Blues, controversial or otherwise, and we’d all like to retain the fond memories rather than the sour ones of late. With clubs seemingly still flush with more money than sense, it’s entirely possible things will get resolved sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed.
