Rangers FC are still looking to strengthen their squad, specifically in the middle of the park.

Rangers Football Club have their full attention on tomorrow’s game against Hamilton Academical. Steven Gerrard’s side know they are heavy favorites to claim three points and extend their undefeated record, but they will need more creativity in order to break down the Accies defense.

The rumors involving Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent have been in the headlines lately, and they have overshadowed the club’s scouting efforts. Adding more creativity to the squad has been a primary objective for Rangers in the transfer window.

A few days ago it was reported that Rangers approached Newcastle United over a potential deal to secure the services for winger Jacob Murphy. A new report from the Scottish Sun claims that Russian international midfielder Daler Kuzyaev is a new transfer target for Rangers.

The report goes on to say that Gers are currently leading the race for his signature, a race which also includes Marseille, Besiktas, and Alaves.

After spending three seasons with Zenit St. Petersburg and being a key player in their consecutive title-winning campaigns, the 27-year-old let his contract run down this summer as he is seeking a new challenge.

With only eight goals and three assists to his name in 64 league appearances with the Russian giants, it is clear that Kuzyaev is not the type of player who will look to get on the score sheet all that often.

Instead, he is an aggressive midfielder who shows great composure on the ball in midfield, and does well to recover the ball defensively to disrupt opposing counter-attacks.

In terms of adding more creativity to the final third, his contribution would be minimal, but Gerrard most likely sees Kuzyaev as a quality veteran who knows what it takes to win titles and compete at an elite level.

Overall, this would be a good signing for Rangers to spark more internal competition and have better ball control in the middle.
