Former AC Milan manager Fabio Capello wants the Italian giants to sign Rangers FC star Alfredo Morelos.
It is not clear whether or not Rangers FC will pursue any more players this summer, but one thing is for certain: the Alfredo Morelos transfer saga needs to end.
At this point, all the speculation surrounding the Colombian striker is becoming a major headache for everyone involved. The club’s star player requested to be left out of the squad over the weekend to focus on his future.
Well, that clearly shows that he is not fully focused on fulfilling his duties as the main striker at Ibrox. French side Lille tabled an offer of around £16m for Morelos, but it was rejected and they have now pulled out of the race.
European giants Marseille and AC Milan have entered the picture now, but the Italian outfit is being urged to get the deal done. According to a new report from the Sunday Post, world-class manager Fabio Capello wants his former club to sign Morelos.
Capello, who won the Champions League and four Serie A titles with AC Milan, went on record saying:
"From what I have seen of Morelos myself, I think he is a very strong player, both physically and technically.[…]If they [AC Milan] are following him, then I am sure they consider him to be an excellent player."
With the success Capello delivered to the club as a manager, his words still pull plenty of weight within the halls of the San Siro. His close relationship with Paolo Maldini, who is now the Technical Director at AC Milan, bodes well in advancing the negotiation process.
With Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten already at the club to serve as Morelos’ replacements on the front line, Rangers should proceed and accept an offer from Milan, even if it matches that of Lille.
The Gers’ front office is hoping to get £20m for their main man, especially since Celtic have a £30m price tag on their star striker Odsonne Edouard, but the circumstances are different.
Morelos has his head turned and does not look like his former self on the pitch. The striker does not want to commit to Rangers, so the club should avoid adding more distractions in a critical season and sell him.
It will be interesting to see if Capello’s personal scouting report gets the attention of his former club, but Morelos would be a good long-term replacement for the aging Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
