The race for Rangers star striker just got more interesting

Rangers FC are waiting for Ligue 1 outfit Marseille to make an offer for their Colombian star.
Rangers have been in the rumor mill for quite some time now as multiple players have been linked with moves to and away from Ibrox. The hottest topic of discussion has been centered on Alfredo Morelos and where his fate lies.
A few weeks ago the Colombian international had one foot out the door as Lille were close to finalizing a deal for his services, but their £17m bid was pushed back by the front office at Ibrox.
Italian giants AC Milan have reportedly contacted Rangers to express their interest in Morelos, but no further action has been taken since last week.
With Lille out of the picture now that they signed Jonathan David, French rivals Marseille have entered the race, according to a new report from Football Insider. The report claims that Morelos is seen as a top transfer priority for the notable French side.
Morelos has been a lethal finisher in front of goal since joining Rangers in 2017 with 54 goals and 12 assists in the Scottish top flight, and eight goals and one assist in 14 Europa League appearances.
With those numbers, it comes as no surprise to see top teams lining up for his signature.
Steven Gerrard has done a great job of bringing in Kemar Roofe and Cedric Itten to strengthen the front line, add more reliable depth, and have quality internal competition at the position.
Both players are capable of regularly finding the back of the net for Rangers, but their game time has been limited so far due to Morelos’ extended stay.
If things do not pan out with AC Milan and Marseille, Gerrard will have a major tactical dilemma on his hands.
Roofe and Itten are still trying to settle into the squad and the league, but they will be ready to go when their numbers are called in the lineup.
It remains to be seen if Marseille will table a formal bid that is more than what Lille offered. The path for Morelos’ departure is wide open and unobstructed, but it will all come down to the money. An offer of £20m or close to it should seal the deal.
