Former Rangers winger Scott Wright has sealed a loan move to Dundee from Birmingham City, with the deal running until the end of the season and marking a return to familiar surroundings.
Birmingham confirmed the switch with a short statement: “The Club can confirm that Scott Wright has joined Dundee on loan.
“Everyone at Blues wishes Scott the best for his loan spell at Dens Park.”
Dundee then followed with their own announcement, expressing delight at bringing the attacker back for a second spell in Dark Blue, with the transfer subject to international clearance.
Wright previously spent time at Dens during the 2018/19 campaign, registering three goals and four assists in a productive loan stint that helped his development at senior level. Now more experienced and decorated, he returns at a different stage of his career.
Wright progressed through the ranks at Aberdeen before moving to Rangers in 2021. His time at Ibrox brought silverware and exposure to high-pressure matches. He made 120 appearances for Rangers, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists, and was part of squads that lifted the Scottish Premiership title, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup.
He also scored in the 2022 Scottish Cup final, a moment that cemented his place in the club’s recent history helping the Gers to their first Cup win since 2009.
After departing Rangers in the summer of 2024, Wright joined Birmingham City. He played 23 times for the Blues, contributing two goals and three assists, and was part of their League One title-winning side as they secured promotion back to the Championship.
Speaking after rejoining Dundee, Wright said: “It’s great to be back, excited to be back here and be playing some football.
“Personally it was great for me at the time, I came in as a young man, it was good for me getting away from home and playing real football. I’m delighted to be back, can’t wait to see the fans at Dens Park soon.”
Dundee gain a player with pace, direct running and experience at the top end of Scottish football, while Wright gets the opportunity for regular minutes, one Rangers will hope can inflict damage on their title rivals.
