Conor Coady has left Wrexham after the club confirmed the mutual termination of his contract, a year after the defender chose the Welsh club over a move to Rangers.
The former England international was wanted by Rangers last summer when Russell Martin was head coach at Ibrox, but Coady opted to join Wrexham instead.
Now, just over a year later, his time at the club has come to an end.
Wrexham confirmed on social media that Coady has departed following the mutual termination of his contract.
“Conor Coady has left the Club following the mutual termination of his contract. We wish Conor all the best for the future,” the club announced via social media.
Connor Coady turned down Rangers
Coady had been identified as an experienced defensive option for Rangers during Martin’s brief spell in charge, but the player ultimately rejected the opportunity to move to Glasgow and picked Wrexham.
His decision has now taken on a different complexion following his departure from the club just 12 months later.
Coady arrived at Wrexham with significant experience at the highest level, having spent much of his career in the Premier League and represented England but has departed after only featuring in six Championship matches for the Welsh side part-owned by Marvel superstar Ryan Reynolds.
Rangers, meanwhile, have since moved on from Martin, with Derek McInnes now at the helm and the club continuing to build a new-look squad after replacing Danny Rohl this summer when the German departed for Austrian giants RB Salzburg.
The circumstances surrounding Coady’s exit mean he is now available again, although it is believed that the Gers have no interest in reigniting their interest in the former Liverpool and Everton man.
Rabbi Matondo also freed
Elsewhere, former Ibrox winger Rabbi Matondo has been released by Norweigen club SK Brann after just five months in Scandanavia.
Matondo departed Ibrox near the end of last season but has also been freed by his new club following a handful of appearences.
