Rangers under 17’s fell to a defeat against Aberdeen at the Rangers Training Centre this evening – going down 5-4 to Aberdeen in a nine goal thriller.

Malky Thomson had a limited squad to choose from – and like the first team last night against Braga – was unable to fill his substitutes bench, listing only three players in reserve.

Rangers did manage to take the lead very early in the match. 16-year-old winger Max Cameron netting the opener early in the match. His longe range effort slipping through the hands of Aberdeen keeper Joe Huntington.

Unfortunately for the Young Gers their lead would not last – with the visiting Dons netting two goals in reply to head in ahead at the break – firstly with a quick attack right from kick off following Cameron’s opener.

Rangers stopper Jaden Millarvie then had an error of his own to allow Aberdeen to take the initiative after only 13 minutes.

After the restart Aberdeen would remain on top – doubling their advantage and going 3-1 up within the first ten minutes of the second period but once again Cameron, a highly-rated prospect within the halls of Ibrox, dragged Rangers back into the game with a good strike after cutting inside from the right wing.

Yet again Rangers would throw away their momentum however, with Aberdeen striking twice in three minutes to extend their lead to 5-2 just after the hour mark.

Cameron would once again be involved as Rangers looked for an unlikely route back into the match – his shot was spilled by Huntington and Chris Condy would tap home to give the Colts hope.

Cameron would complete his well deserved hat-trick just minutes later, beating Huntington with a near post effort to bring Rangers within a goal of the visitors with 20 minutes remaining.

Despite chances for both sides the free flowing scoring would cease and Rangers would fall to an eventual 5-4 defeat at a wet and windy Auchenhowie, the Dons making the long trip back north to the Granite City with a hard-earnt three points.

Despite the defeat Rangers remain top of the CAS Elite U17’s league on 18 points – Aberdeen shoot up the table onto ten points – having doubled their tally of goals for the season in a single night.

Next up for the 17’s is an Old Firm match next Friday evening at the Training Centre with a 7.30pm kick off.
