Rangers are set for a deadline day clear out of unwanted squad players ahead of tonight's transfer deadline at midnight.

Players such as Leon King and Clinton Nsiala are the most likely to depart, relegated to the ‘bomb squad’ and training separately from the main group after being told they had no futures at Ibrox.

Some players still in and around the first team are also set to be sold off before the end of the window as head coach Russell Martin looks to trim his squad of 31 down to make space for expected arrivals today.

One such player who could depart Ibrox is Albanian midfielder Nedim Bajrami. Martin has used the former Sassuolo playmaker sparingly during the opening weeks of the season. He scored against Alloa Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup but has been limited to cameo appearances in the league, including a decent substitute appearance against Celtic yesterday afternoon.

However, only a year on from his last-minute arrival in Scotland the 33-times capped Red and Blacks man, who scored the fastest goal in UEFA European Championship history against Italy at last year, looks set to depart.

His runout yesterday in the 0-0 Old Firm draw at Ibrox was his 50th appearance for Rangers after a year in Scotland, but the Swiss born midfielder has only managed six goals and four assists in that time, one goal contribution every ten games, and Rangers have brought in Thelo Aasgaard this summer to fill the position.

He has had some highlights in blue, a cup final goal against Celtic last December and several excellent Old Firm performances man marking Hoops captain Calum McGregor in particular but after limited game time so far this season, and some cryptic social media posts after being left out of Rangers European squad for their tie against Club Brugge, it looks a good time for all parties to move on from each other.

Interest in Bajrami is high, with clubs in Germany, Italy and Spain all interested in acquiring his services, with most preferring a loan whilst Rangers would ideally look to recoup the transfer fee they spent on the player a year ago.

La Liga side Sevilla are the front runners for his signature, looking for a loan with an option to buy. Rangers would ideally like another attacking midfield option in before sanctioning the move, with Crystal Palace prospect Jesurun Rak-Sakyi a potential option.

It should be a busy day at Ibrox, for deals in and out of the famous old ground.
