Lewis Ferguson is set to decide on his Bologna future after returning from Scotland's World Cup campaign, but Rangers could face even greater competition if they are to finally bring the midfielder to Ibrox.
The 26-year-old informed Bologna before departing for the tournament that he wanted to assess his options in July, with interest continuing to build across Italy.
Rangers have long admired Ferguson, but Lazio, Atalanta and Roma are all monitoring the Scotland international, whose current club are understood to value him at more than £17 million.
Ferguson has just returned from the World Cup after representing Steve Clarke’s side during the group stages.
Steve Clarke's side finished with three points after defeating Haiti but suffered defeats to Morocco and Brazil, bringing their tournament to an end before the knockout rounds as the former Kilmarnock manager departed.
Any Rangers move already looked financially challenging, but the latest developments could make a deal even more complicated.

Atalanta, one of Ferguson's admirers, have also sounded out Rangers over the availability of Thelo Aasgaard.
The Norway international enhanced his growing reputation at the World Cup by scoring against France, with the 24-year-old attracting increasing interest following an impressive first season at Ibrox.
Should Atalanta intensify their pursuit of Aasgaard, Rangers could find themselves involved in discussions with the Serie A club while simultaneously competing against them for Ferguson's signature.

Despite the speculation, Ferguson has never hidden his desire to one day wear the Rangers shirt.
The son of former Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson and nephew of club legend Barry Ferguson has repeatedly been linked with a move to Ibrox throughout his career.
His agent, Bill McMurdo, recently reinforced that belief.
"Lewis will play for Rangers before his career finishes. Absolutely no doubt about that,” he revealed.
However, McMurdo also acknowledged the scale of the financial challenge facing the Scottish Premiership club.
"Last year, they couldn't afford him because when we had Juventus and Napoli with offers on the table, they were talking about paying something in the region of €20-€25 million."

With Bologna now valuing Ferguson above £17m and several Serie A clubs circling, Rangers may once again have to bide their time if they are to fulfil what many believe is the midfielder's long-held ambition of representing the club.
However, the club have spent money since their takeover last summer, notably £10 million on Portuguese forward Yousef Chermiti from Everton.
The club’s record signing remains the £12 million spent on Tore Andre Flo in 2000, to secure Ferguson, that needs to be broken.
