Rangers are not currently pursuing Ibrahima Balde, despite the striker remaining on the club's list of potential options.
Balde, who stars for French Ligue 2 club Rodez. has been considered by Rangers as part of their wider recruitment process, but he is not the club's active striking target at this stage.
Instead, towering Portland Timbers striker Kevin Kelsy remains Rangers' priority target as the club looks to add another striker to Derek McInnes' squad.
The Venezuelan forward is now closing in on a move to Ibrox, with the deal dependent on the final stages of the process, including securing his visa and completing a medical with a fee of £9.5 million and personal terms already agreed.
Kelsy set for MLS exit
Timbers boss Marti Cifuentes commented on Kelsy's situation recently.
"It's been obviously a club decision as well. We spoke about the pros and cons. Kevin was doing well. He's a young, talented striker," he said.
"I don't want to make any further statements until everything is official. You're aware of the situation.
But the target will be always have full trust in Ned and his team to make sure that we're stronger at theend of the window."
Kelsy remains top target
Kelsy has emerged as the preferred option for Rangers, with the club moving ahead with efforts to bring him to Glasgow.
That means reports linking Rangers with a current move for Balde should be treated with caution.
The 23-year-old former Lens striker remains on the club's radar and has been part of the list of players considered for the position, but there is no active pursuit of his signature at present.
Rangers' focus is instead firmly on getting Kelsy's move over the line. The striker has experience of European football and spent last season in the MLS with Portland Timbers, following a spell with Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine following a move from his homeland via Uruguay.
Jablonec defeat not set to impact Kelsy deal
The priority for Rangers is now completing the remaining formalities surrounding Kelsy's arrival. Subject to the visa and medical being successfully completed, Kelsy is closing in on becoming Rangers' latest attacking addition and signing number 14 of the summer for McInnes’s side following Thursday’s acquisition of Kim Min-Su.
Last night’s UEFA Conference League exit to Jablonec is not expected to impact the deal for the Portland forward but could lessen the Gers finances for the final week of the window, which closes on September 3.
Balde remains an option should the club's circumstances change, but Kelsy is the name at the top of Rangers' striking shortlist right now.
