Hampden’s security team is under fire after failing to act in an appropriate amount of time after a Rangers fan fell ill in the West Stand during yesterday's Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic.

With the sides level, despite Rangers being down to ten men, at the end of 90-minutes both sections of support for the Glasgow divide remained inside Hampden Park as the November sky darkened.

Celtic would retake the lead early in the first period of extra-time, with captain Callum McGregor striking past Rangers keeper Jack Butland from the edge of the area before young English striker Callum Osmand secured the Hoops place in the final in the second period.

But the main source of frustration from the Rangers end of the National Stadium was not caused due to ire at a goal or a controversial refereeing decision, but at the inaction of security and medical staff within the ground.

An older Rangers supporter became ill and distressed during the latter period of the match and looked to receive help from officials within the ground.

However, reports from fellow supporters in the area have suggested he was ignored and the stewards in the section simply walked past and did not act despite the risks to the supporters health.

There was clear commotion as the Union Bears broke rank and took it upon themselves to force officials to help their fellow supporter.

However, the security personnel at the front of the stand are reported to have been more concerned in restraining those looking for help, than providing it to the supporter in need.

There have also been complaints regarding the actions of medical staff who made the supporter in question walk around the park to the medical site, despite stretchers being available and a road and track for ambulances to drive up.

Once again those in charge of governing our game have let the common supporter down.

Neither Rangers nor their Supporter Liaison Officer have made any statement at this time in regards to this incident.
