Rangers have pulled their earlier request to postpone their Scottish Premiership fixture at St Mirren, even if they advance to the Champions League play-off round.

Heading into tonight’s away leg against Viktoria Plzen with a commanding 3-0 aggregate lead in the third qualifying round, Russell Martin’s side remain strong favourites to progress.

Previously, Rangers had signalled they might seek a break between the two legs of their potential next tie against either Austrian side RB Salzburg or the Belgian Pro League’s Club Brugge.

However, following further talks involving Rangers, St Mirren, and key stakeholders, the Scottish Professional Football League confirmed: “Rangers have withdrawn their request.”

The St Mirren match is now set to take place on Sunday, 24 August, with a 12:00 BST kick-off, live on Sky Sports from the SMiSA Stadium in Paisley.

Rangers currently sit four points behind reigning champions Celtic after starting their domestic campaign with two draws.

Had they postponed the St Mirren game, they could have faced the first Old Firm derby on 31 August seven points adrift.

This will allow see on loan defender Nasser Djiga be available for the Old Firm. The centre half was sent off in last Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Dundee and had the game been postponed he would have missed the next league match; the Old Firm.

Now he will miss the trip to Paisley and be back available for the match with Celtic at Ibrox on the last day of August.
