Reaction to the News

Sterling spoke to RangersTV after signing the extension:

“Why Rangers? I just think it is a great place to work every day.

“Obviously with a good manager, teammates and staff and then good fans. It feels like a home at the minute so I don't think there was a reason to change it.

“It is the right environment for me as well. Obviously it is still close to London if you get a flight but it takes away that distraction a bit more.

“Being up here lets me really focus on the football.

“I think it gives you something like a purpose and motivation every day to come in, that you want to do more. Obviously I have got the reward now and I want to repay the favour.”

Sterling has represented England at several age groups—U16, U17, U19, and U20, making 39 total appearances, and helping them win the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2017. He has also won two FA Youth Cups , two UEFA Youth Leagues , and the U18 Premier League with Chelsea.

Manager Philippe Clement spoke about Sterling and the contract extension:

“We are delighted that Dujon has committed his future to the club.

“He has become a vital member of the squad over the past year since I came to the club, showing his potential in several positions and always being ready for the team.

“We are going to continue working hard together with him to get everything out of his abilities and believe he will continue to have a big impact on the squad.”

Director of Football Recruitment, Nils Koppen, commented:

“As well as our emphasis on external recruitment, it is important we keep a close eye on the assets we have in the squad already.

“Dujon is a player who has loved his Rangers journey so far and I’m sure the supporters have appreciated his selflessness and incredible work ethic.

“We are very pleased that he has extended his stay at the club.”

Sterling has expressed his desire to win more trophies with Rangers FC after his Man of the Match display in the final helped them win the League Cup last season:

“It has been good, obviously we won a trophy last season but we didn't win the league.

“We want to try and win that this season, as well as winning another trophy and getting as far as we can in the Europa League, hopefully to the final. For me it is just trying to stay in every competition as long as possible.”
