Talks over Nedim Bajrami's proposed Rangers exit are continuing, but negotiations have hit a potential stumbling block over the structure of the deal.
According to TMW Radio, discussions are advancing through intermediaries in Milan with former club Sassuolo, although plans for Bajrami to travel for a medical have been put on hold until a final agreement is reached over personal terms and the transfer package.
The biggest obstacle remains Rangers' valuation, with the Ibrox club insisting on a permanent £2.1 million transfer. This would see the Ibrox side losing over £1m on the player signed two years ago from the same club.
Rangers holding firm on permanent sale
Rangers are understood to want a straight permanent deal for Bajrami as they continue to reshape Derek McInnes' squad before the transfer window closes.
Sassuolo, however, would prefer to sign the Albania international on loan with an option to buy, creating a gap between the two clubs that still needs to be bridged.
While negotiations are progressing, that difference in approach is currently preventing the move from being finalised.
Personal terms are also still being finalised before the transfer can move into its closing stages despite the hiccup over the deal structure.
Other Italian clubs keeping close watch
Sassuolo are not the only club monitoring Bajrami's situation.
Other sides from both Serie A and Serie B are understood to be following developments closely in case the current negotiations fail to produce an agreement.
Bajrami has been widely expected to leave Rangers this summer after falling out of McInnes' first-team plans, and interest from Italy remains strong.
Whether Sassuolo can meet Rangers' demand for a permanent deal could now determine whether the move is completed or whether rival Italian clubs are given an opportunity to enter the race.
