Mikey Moore says Rangers must use the defeat to Roma as a learning moment, but insists the squad believes they can respond immediately with results in both Europe and the league.
The 18-year-old Spurs loanee was one of the standout performers in the second half of Rangers 2–0 defeat at Ibrox on Thursday night, a result which leaves the club bottom of the UEFA Europa League’s league phase after four matches.
Speaking to RangersTV post-match, Moore admitted the performance in the opening stages cost his side dearly.
“I think the first 30 minutes of the game, they showed some good quality and they scored two goals, which I think could be prevented by us,” he said.
“I think we fought hard in the second half, but it's not enough to do it in one half of football.”
Roma struck through Matías Soulé and Lorenzo Pellegrini, both goals coming from situations Rangers failed to manage defensively, something Moore acknowledged needs to improve.
He said: “We just need to try and prevent those goals from going in.
“Sometimes it’s a little bit too easy, but I think the boys are trying and we’re making small steps together.”
Rangers created chances after the break, with Moore himself going close. The winger was candid about needing more contributions in the final third.
“I need to start scoring and assisting,” he said.
“We had chances we could have taken.
“We were a lot better in the second half, in and out of possession, but in the end it wasn’t enough.”
Despite the setback, Moore was clear that Rangers cannot treat defeats at this level as something to simply accept.
“We’ve got a team where we need to go there with a different mentality to try and win the game and not think it’s all right to lose against a team like that,” he said.
“We need to look at the next four games in the Europa League and we need to win all four of them, really.”
With attention now turning to the league trip to Dundee on Sunday, Moore emphasised that the group is still progressing under Danny Röhl and must stick together.
“We’re building together and we need to try to get another win,” he said.
“We need to just win as many games as possible.
“We’re becoming more positive as a group and go and get the win on Sunday.”
