Derek McInnes has revealed that John Souttar's Rangers exit could develop over the next two or three days as interest from two clubs continues to gather pace.
The Scotland international remains at Ibrox despite the closure of the Scottish transfer window, with McInnes confirming that one potential destination is further down the line than the other.
Souttar trained on Thursday morning, but his Rangers future remains uncertain, with the club open to a departure should a suitable opportunity materialise.
Reports have continued to link the defender with a move to Greece, with Aris Thessaloniki understood to be interested. The Greek transfer window remains open until September 15 and domestic reports suggested a €1.2 million bid had been accepted earlier today.
But McInnes has now stressed that a deal has not yet reached the final stages.
McInnes reveals latest Souttar situation
Asked about reports surrounding Souttar's future, McInnes provided a fresh update after speaking to the defender that morning ahead of Sunday's Old Firm clash with Celtic.
"I spoke to John this morning, he trained, there's a bit of interest in him from one or two clubs, one club maybe a bit further down the line than the other but I think it's something that could develop but I don't think it's at that stage yet but maybe something will happen over the next two or three days,” he revealed.
Greek supports suggested a medical was booked for the player this Sunday.
McInnes previously admitted that the defender's long-term future had been discussed with him.
"John has been told his long-term future would be best served elsewhere,” he said prior to the match with the Buddies on Wednesday.
"But if nothing materialises, then of course we'll honour his contract, and he'll come back into things."
One club 'further down the line'
The latest update will likely increase speculation over Souttar's next destination, with McInnes confirming that two clubs are currently showing interest.
The Rangers boss stopped short of naming either club but suggested the situation could become clearer very quickly.
"There's a bit of interest in him from one or two clubs, one club maybe a bit further down the line than the other,” he said.
Souttar has been surplus to requirements under McInnes after Rangers added defensive options during the summer, with Ben Godfrey and Olwethu Makhanya joining Emmanuel Fernandez in the centre-back group.
The defender was also linked with moves elsewhere earlier in the summer but remained at Ibrox after the main transfer window closed.
Clinton Nsiala is also available, but a move to Cyprus is off as of now.
