Bojan Miovski grabbed the headlines with his stunning 90th-minute chip at Ibrox, but Rangers goalkeeper Ivor Pandur also played a significant role in securing the three points.
With the game still goalless in the second half, St Mirren broke through and Fraser Taylor found himself with the freedom of Ibrox in front of him.
Taylor drove towards goal with only Pandur standing between him and the opener, but the Rangers goalkeeper refused to commit himself too early.
Standing his ground on the edge of his six-yard box, Pandur waited for Taylor to make the decision before spreading himself and blocking the shot.
Miovski's late intervention eventually secured Rangers' fourth consecutive Premiership victory, but Pandur believes the result was built on the team's ability to remain together during the difficult periods.
"Yeah, I'm really happy for Bojan. I think when you do good in life, good always comes back and he's the prime example for it because he wasn't involved in a lot of games but he was always there making everybody smile and I cannot think of nobody who deserves it more,” Pandur said post-match on Rangers TV.
"Obviously we had good first half, second half we wasn't good and we need to improve a lot of things if we want to be a team that's fighting for titles.
"I think there's lots of things we need to improve but today I think togetherness also was a massive part. We stick through tough moments because St Mirren is a good team and like I said, I'm just happy for Bojan."
Pandur explains crucial Taylor save
Pandur was asked about the moment which could easily have changed the outcome of the match.
The Croatian kept his composure as Taylor advanced towards goal, holding his position rather than rushing out to narrow the angle and his patience ultimately paid off.
"I was just holding my position and making the striker make the decision,” he said.
"Luckily the ball was close enough for me to make a save but I think they didn't have much in the game, maybe just this.
"I'm happy that I was there, ready in this moment and happy for the win."
McInnes impressed by goalkeeper's contribution
Rangers boss Derek McInnes revealed that Taylor is the friend of his son and joked that he would have had something to say if the St Mirren forward had managed to score.
"Wee Fraser Taylor is my son's best pal. He's never out my house and he would never have got back in it if he scored,” McInnes joked.
"Going back to Ivar, it was a big moment."
"I've seen Fraser doing that for the school team, for St Mirren as a young player running through it. He's normally a good finisher but I thought Ivar stood up and was calm in that instance.
"You've got to say your number nine coming on and your number one gets his three points today for everything that happened. It was a big save."
“He has kind of flown under the radar which is kind of what you want for your goalie to be honest.
"You don't want him to be excitable and people targeting him. He's very professional, he's very driven, he's very clean with what he does."
Pandur sets sights on Celtic
The result means Rangers head into Sunday's Premier Sports Cup clash against Celtic on a run of four consecutive victories.
Pandur knows the challenge awaiting his side will be significantly different but believes Rangers can take confidence from their recent momentum.
"100%. It's a game, we want to win it. We will give our best,” he said.
"We know we play against a tough opponent. It's a derby and I think everybody is excited and looking forward to it."
And after seeing the Rangers support roar their team towards victory against St Mirren, Pandur hopes the atmosphere can help drive the team on again against Celtic.
"100% and they were brilliant today. I think they gave us really good energy and they were really happy,” the Croatian revealed.
"In the first half we could feel they were on the same page with us and they believed until the end. We are lucky to have them as fans."
