BK Häcken’s sporting director has effectively shut the door on a January departure for Silas Andersen, confirming the midfielder will remain in Sweden despite interest from both sides of Glasgow.

With the winter window entering the closing hours, clubs across Europe are pushing to complete late deals. However, Häcken have made their position clear: Andersen is not for sale at this stage unless an exceptional offer arrive, and none has matched their valuation.

Both Celtic and Rangers have been credited with tracking the 21-year-old, but any move now appears firmly on hold until at least the summer.

Andersen’s stock has risen sharply over the past year thanks to his performances in the Allsvenskan and on the European stage. His composure in possession, positional intelligence and ability to operate as a controlling presence in midfield have marked him out as one of Häcken’s standout assets.

That development has not gone unnoticed, and the Swedish club are fully aware of the external attention.

Speaking about the situation, Häcken’s sporting director acknowledged the speculation but stressed the club’s intention to keep hold of the player.

“As it stands now, he is still here and it will close in a few days. We want him to stay here, but we understand that he has been so good in both the Swedish league and in the European game. But as it stands now, he will stay,” he said via Fotbollskanalen.

Those comments underline Häcken’s leverage. Andersen is under contract, performing well, and viewed as central to their ambitions.

As a result, any club hoping to prise him away would need to meet a club record-level transfer fee, a threshold neither Glasgow side appears prepared to reach tonight.

For Rangers in particular, the update is significant. The Ibrox club had been exploring options to strengthen the No.6 position during this window, seeking a player capable of dictating tempo and adding defensive structure in front of the back line.

With Andersen now effectively unavailable, that plan looks unlikely to materialise before the deadline. Instead, forward reinforcement has taken priority, with the arrival of Ryan Naderi representing the club’s only likely late business.

For Rangers, this is a case of timing and valuation not aligning, interest remains, but the deal conditions simply do not suit January realities.
