Former Rangers striker Ross McCormack has joined amateur side Giffnock North ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 40-year-old has agreed to restart his playing career with the Glasgow-based club following a career which has taken him from Rangers to the English Premier League and international football.

Giffnock North confirmed the move with an announcement welcoming the experienced forward to the club.

“The former Leeds, Fulham, Aston Villa & Scotland forward has agreed to sign on for the 2026/27 season.”

The club added: “Everyone at Giffnock North is delighted to have you onboard.”

McCormack career starts again

McCormack began his senior career with Rangers after coming through the club's academy and went on to establish himself in the Scottish Premier League with Motherwell before a productive career in the Championship in England.

His career included spells with Cardiff City, Leeds United, Fulham and Aston Villa, as well as a period in the Premier League.

McCormack later played in Australia with Melbourne City and Central Coast Mariners before short stints in the English non leagues with several clubs.

He also earned 13 Scotland caps, representing his country between 2008 and 2016.

McCormack's most productive spell came at Leeds, where he became a key figure and one of the Championship's leading goalscorers before moving to Fulham.

His career has subsequently taken him into the lower levels of the game, and he will now bring his considerable experience to Giffnock North.

The move represents a significant coup for the amateur club, who will have a former Premier League and Scotland international available to them for the upcoming campaign.
