Reports are emerging from sources inside Ibrox that Brazilian forward Danilo could be on his way out of Rangers this summer, less than two years after arriving in Glasgow. The striker, who joined from Feyenoord in a £6 million deal during the 2023 summer transfer window, has endured a frustrating spell at the club, hampered by injuries and limited opportunities under three different managers.
Initially brought in by Michael Beale, Danilo’s time at Rangers started with promise but quickly unravelled as he suffered multiple injuries that curtailed his momentum. Since then, both Philippe Clement and, more recently, Barry Ferguson have shown a clear preference for Cyriel Dessers as the lead striker, with Hamza Igamane serving as his deputy, leaving Danilo with minimal game time.
Despite his struggles, the Brazilian has contributed in key moments when fit. He scored an injury-time winner against Hearts early in his Rangers career and bagged Old Firm goals against Celtic, one in the Premier Sports Cup final and another during a memorable 3-0 derby win on New Year’s Day in 2025. However, these flashes of quality have not been enough to cement his place in the starting XI.
With Hamza Igamane continuing to rise in prominence and Dessers currently ahead in the pecking order, Danilo’s prospects at Ibrox appear bleak.
There is now speculation linking him with a move to Spain, with several sources indicating he has already started taking Spanish lessons in preparation, possibly signalling an imminent departure to either the Iberian peninsula or to Central/South America, where Spanish is the native language of many nations.
While it could be dismissed as a new hobby, the timing is certainly raising eyebrows among fans and pundits alike.
Given Rangers’ need to strengthen their squad for next season, cashing in on Danilo may be viewed as a sensible option. With Dessers also rumoured to be attracting interest from abroad, a major reshuffle in the striking department could be on the cards this summer.
