Transfer deadline day has been and gone for the big five leagues - but only two final day departures were confirmed by Rangers yesterday.
Lyall Cameron crossing the Dundee divide to sign for his boyhood club Dundee United on a straight loan, and Connor Barron moving to Championship side Middlesbrough in the late hours of the window, again on a straight loan.
Earlier this summer, interest in the Scotland international from the big leagues was rumoured to be high - teams such as Bologna, Lazio, Eintracht Frankfurt and West Ham United were all linked with him before Rangers made acquisitions in the midfield area this summer.
Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin coming in on free transfers seemed to make sense, if Barron was expendable and could leave for a decent fee.
As the window wore on though, no bids were forthcoming, apart from a loan deal with Hannover, which Barron knocked back due to an apparent willingness to fight for his place at Ibrox.
Sevilla were also apparently keen, however they had used up their non-EU slots with the signing of ex Rangers forward Robbie Ure earlier in the month and had no space to look to bring in Barron.
Barron accepts Ibrox exit
As the minutes ticked down on Tuesday night however news emerged of Middlesbrough's interest, needing a midfielder to replace former club captain Hayden Hackney who had joined Everton this summer.
Barron, knowing competition for places in a congested midfield area at Rangers was rife, signed the deal for a straight loan until the end of the season.
At this point Barron will only have one year left on his Rangers deal, and without a guaranteed fee involved in the deal, his overall value has deteriorated over the summer.
Now, a successful loan at Middlesbrough in the English championship may put him in the shop window more, especially in the English market - with many Premier league clubs making acquisitions from the Championship this summer.
However, that is solely dependant on Barron having that successful loan spell in his new surroundings. More first team football may also help his international prospects under new Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli.
Barron links up with missed Ibrox target
In an interesting transfer twist, he will line up alongside long term Rangers target Amario Cozier-Duberry who also joined Middlesbrough on a season long loan on deadline day from Brighton, following the signing of a new contract with the Seagulls, and them bringing in Millwall winger Femi Azeez as a replacement.
