Rangers midfielder Connor Barron has been given permission to try and seal a loan move to Middlesbrough before the English transfer window closes tonight at 11pm GMT.
The Championship club have emerged as a late option for the 23-year-old, although it remains to be seen whether they can complete the deal before the deadline.
Barron is among the Rangers players who have been given the green light to seek a move away from Ibrox in search of regular first-team football.
The midfielder has featured just twice in European competition for Derek McInnes's side this season and has found opportunities limited in a competitive Rangers midfield.
Barron rejected Hannover move
The latest development comes after Barron rejected the opportunity to join Hannover 96 on loan earlier today.
The 2. Bundesliga club had been pushing to take the former Aberdeen midfielder before the German transfer window closed, but Barron was said to be determined to remain at Rangers and fight for his place in McInnes' squad.
His stance has now changed with Middlesbrough presenting another potential route to regular football.
The English Championship side have made their interest known, with Barron now permitted to explore the move.
However, time is against all parties with the English transfer deadline set for 11pm.
Rangers willing to let midfielder leave
Barron's limited involvement this season has opened the door to a temporary departure. Despite being viewed as a player with significant potential following his move from Aberdeen, competition for places has made it difficult for him to establish himself as a regular under McInnes.
