Rangers vs Ross County player ratings as Roofe stars on return
By Scott Mckay
Rangers went up to Dingwall today and got the job done in a convincing 2-0 victory with both goals coming in the first half with goals from Kemar Roofe and James Tavernier. Ross County away has been a potential banana skin for Rangers in recent seasons and they got the job done in a professional manner today.
Ross County offered very little going forward with the home side having two shots on target compared to Rangers eight. If Jordan White scores the near post header pretend to him in the second half it could have been a different match but thankfully, he fired wide of the post.
Jack Butland – 8
Assured performance from the 30 year old Englishman, he kept a clean sheet. Butland was reassuring from cross balls as he caught almost everything that came into the box. The former Crystal Palace keeper showed assured distribution with his feet and was assured with Ross County’s two shots on target.
James Tavernier – 8
The Rangers captain produced a potential goal of the season in the first half. Got up and down the flank and was productive in his build up play going forward, the Englishman continues to produce the goods in a Rangers jersey.
Connor Goldson – 7
Not a standout performance from the Rangers stopper but defended well when needed and did it to a high standard as always
John Souttar – 9
The Scottish international produced a man of the match performance. Would have cleared his Gran if she came into the Rangers box and drove from defence to start attacks when he felt it was safe to do so.
Borna Barisic – 6
Got up and down the flank well enough in what was a standard performance from the Coration international. Put some good deliveries into the box and was effective in what he did.
Nico Raskin – 6
I thought it was a sloppy performance from the Belgian Under-21 international, he gave the ball away a bit in the second half and wasn’t very commanding in midfield as he was outshone by John Lundstram. He wasn’t very effective but went about his work in a quiet manner and had a high work rate in doing so.
John Lundstram – 7
One of the better matches from the best on earth as he took control of the midfield. Drove forward with purpose.
Todd Cantwell – 5
This was probably the playmakers worst game of the season as he barely had an impact on proceedings, subbed after 65 minutes for the return of Tom Lawrence.
Sam Lammers – 5
The Dutch forward is yet to hit the heights of pre season, had one cross turned shot in the first half and hooked on 60 minutes.
Kemar Roofe – 8
The Jamaican international showed us what we have been missing, great finish from the corner in the first half. Good combination play and just showed what a good player he is when fit.
Cyriel Dessers – 6
I thought the striker huffed and puffed his way through the game today, did show small signs of a potential fruitful partnership with Roofe up front but all we continue to see is glimpses of what the frontman can offer.
Subs
Rabbi Matondo – 7
Continued his comeback to form in having an impact from the bench. Good combination play with Borna down the left hand side. The winger looked lively as he got in behind the Ross County backline and caused chaos. Had another worldy shot on target as well. Another good contribution from the Welshman.
Abdullah Sima – 5
Cleared a header at the back post and had a header on target from a Barasic cross at the other end, stretched his legs down the right wing once or twice.
Danilo – 4
Didnt have any impact when coming on, needs match starts to show us what he can do.
Tom Lawrence – 4
Got minutes in his legs.
Ryan Jack – 4
Brought on to close the game out.
