After witnessing a stunning triumph over bitter rivals Celtic last weekend, Rangers manager Michael Beale may have his sights set on strengthening his midfield during the summer transfer window.

While the 42-year-old coach seems to be scoping out potential signings predominantly in England, a quick shopping excursion across the Channel to France could uncover an ideal candidate in 27-year-old Branco van den Boomen.

The Dutch midfielder has been instrumental in propelling Toulouse from Ligue 2 into the French top flight this season.

Van den Boomen has flourished in France over the last five years, racking up an incredible 68 goal contributions in 113 appearances for Toulouse.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, the midfield dynamo would provide Rangers a perfect balance alongside new signing Todd Cantwell.

With Van den Boomen’s contract expiring this summer, he appears poised to move on from Toulouse, according to reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 27-year-old has garnered interest from clubs across Europe thanks to his consistently prolific form this campaign, scoring six goals and providing 13 assists in 37 matches.

While Beale seems keen on two number eights in his team, the acquisition of Van den Boomen could see either John Lundstram or Glen Kamara moved on.

Despite Lundstram’s solid performance against Celtic, questions remain over his future at Ibrox. Likewise, homegrown Scott Arfield could make way for the fresher legs and superior numbers of Van den Boomen.

While there will likely be stiff competition for the free agent, the lure of Champions League football and a higher wage than his current £13,000 per week could prove persuasive.

Without a hefty transfer budget, Beale and Rangers may need to get creative by offloading two midfielders to fund the signing of Van den Boomen, who would instantly improve the team.

A shrewd piece of business, the capture of the Toulouse star could allow Beale to invest funds elsewhere to strengthen his squad.
