Rangers appear destined for another transfer window where scouting south of the border bears fruit.

The mighty Gers have already been linked with midfielders Kieran Dowell and Leighton Clarkson, as well as goalkeeper Jack Butland, all of whom currently ply their trade in England.

The latest name in the frame is West Brom forward Karlan Grant.

The 23-year-old striker is reportedly attracting interest from Championship clubs, but Rangers have stolen a march on their competitors by registering their interest in Grant’s services, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

West Brom are said to be willing to listen to offers for their hitman this summer as his stock has fallen in The Hawthorns’ boardroom.

Grant certainly knows his way to goal, having racked up 58 league strikes over the past three seasons.

However, only three of those have come this term, calling into question whether he could cut it at a club with Rangers’ ambitions.

Karlan Grant cost West Brom £15 million just two years ago but has struggled to justify that price tag, with his Transfermarkt valuation decreasing steadily since then.

Rangers manager Michael Beale will likely be in the market for attacking reinforcements with Alfredo Morelos and Antonio Colak potentially heading for the Ibrox exit.

Grant’s ability to play across the front line would give Beale options, but his lack of recent productivity is a concern.

Rangers eye Karlan Grant as striking solution

While Grant has a proven pedigree in finding the net, this is a signing that would represent something of a gamble for the Govan club.

The links to talent from south of the border seem set to continue as Rangers aim to overthrow Celtic at the summit of Scottish football.

Grant could yet prove another shrewd addition, but there may be safer options out there for Beale and Ross Wilson to consider as they plot summer transfer deals.

The approach has been made – now Rangers must decide if Grant is the right man to boost their bid for title glory.
