Rangers urged to consider signing English goalkeeper
Barry Ferguson, a pundit in the football industry, has suggested that Rangers should consider signing goalkeeper Jack Butland, who is currently on loan at Manchester United.
With Allan McGregor likely to retire at the end of the season, Rangers are in need of a new goalkeeper for next season.
Butland’s contract at Palace is set to expire at the end of the campaign, and Manchester United have not made any moves to sign him permanently.
Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson stated that “Top goalkeepers win you games, so it will be interesting to see over the next couple of months what actually happens with Allan McGregor.”
He went on to say that Butland, who he remembers as a young goalkeeper when he was at Birmingham, could be a good option for Rangers in the summer.
Butland has already made 45 Premier League appearances, and he will be looking to be the first-choice goalkeeper somewhere.
However, he is unlikely to get that opportunity in the English top flight unless he joins a newly-promoted side. Therefore, moving to Ibrox could be a better option for him.
Rangers urged to consider signing Jack Butland
Michael Beale, a coach at Rangers, has had a number of good moments in England and could work well with Butland, who is also known for his ball-playing abilities.
McGregor, who is 41, has given his all to Rangers and deserves to enjoy his retirement.
He could be welcomed back as a coach in the future, but for now, the club needs to consider other options.
Signing Butland, a nine-cap England international, on a free transfer would be a good move for Rangers, who desperately need a new goalkeeper.
