Livingston’s Joel Nouble Touted for Rangers Move by Own Manager
Joel Nouble, Livingston’s towering striker, has been touted as a potential signing target for Rangers this summer by his own manager David Martindale.
The 27-year-old frontman has emerged as a surprise star in the Scottish Premiership this season, netting 7 goals in 25 appearances for The Lions.
Martindale lavished praise on his striker, hailing him as a “fantastic talent” who has been “simply brilliant” for Livingston.
The Livi boss believes Nouble is destined for bigger things, saying he would not be surprised to see the striker leave the club this summer.
“I think we’ve got to enjoy Joel while we’ve got him because if Joel’s playing his football at Livingston next year, I would be very very surprised,” Martindale said. “I think he’s a fantastic talent. I’d love to see him go to a big club in Scotland in terms of maybe one of the Old Firm.”
Martindale thinks Nouble’s impressive displays have shown he is capable of playing at a higher level, suggesting a move to either Celtic or Rangers would be fitting.
The Livingston manager also believes the Englishman could easily play in the English Championship if Rangers do not firm up their reported interest.
“And I think there’s more to Joel, I genuinely believe there’s more to Joel so I’d really like to see Joel get down the road, get playing his football in the English Championship because you know what?
It would be incredible to see him take his career and kick on. He’s been brilliant for us!” Martindale added.
Livingston’s Joel Nouble Touted for Rangers Move by Own Manager
Nouble’s career has largely been spent in non-league football in England until Livingston took a chance on him last year.
After a loan spell with Arbroath, the 6ft 4in striker has burst onto the scene this campaign, posing a real aerial threat to opposition defences.
While Nouble netted the opener in Livingston’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Saturday, Rangers likely need a proven goalscorer and natural finisher to replace the outgoing Alfredo Morelos.
Nouble may be emerging late in his career but he does not quite seem to fit the bill as a first-choice striker who could strike fear into rivals Celtic.
However, on current form, the rangy frontman could prove an intriguing option for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.
