Rangers eyeing Nantes winger Marcus Coco for summer transfer
Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are reportedly keen on signing Nantes winger Marcus Coco this summer.
The 26-year-old Frenchman has suggested his time with the Ligue 1 side could be coming to an end after struggling for playing time this season.
With Rangers’ sporting director Ross Wilson abruptly leaving for Nottingham Forest this week, manager Michael Beale has taken it upon himself to oversee the club’s transfer business. It seems Coco may be high on Beale’s wish list, according to French publication Homme du Match.
Coco’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he is eager to secure more minutes on the pitch, implying that a move away from Nantes could be on the cards.
The former Guingamp man has made just 28 appearances across all competitions this campaign, mostly as a substitute in league matches.
“According to our information, [the] player could even join Scotland and the Glasgow Rangers club who are interested in him with a view to recruitment for next summer,” Homme du Match reported.

Reinforcing the wide forward position has been a priority for Rangers for some time. With Ryan Kent likely leaving the club, the need for a winger will become even more pressing.
While Fashion Sakala and Scott Wright offer options out wide, they have lacked consistency. The injury-plagued Ianis Hagi, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo have also failed to make a meaningful impact.
However, there are serious doubts as to whether Coco would be the solution to Rangers’ problems on the flanks. The Frenchman has scored just once this season and has a dismal goalscoring record of 11 goals in 242 appearances for Nantes and Guingamp.
Given that Kent is often criticised for his lack of end product, replacing him with Coco, who averages a goal or assist every 10 games, may not go down well with the Rangers faithful.
If Rangers are indeed lining up Coco for a summer transfer, it seems to be more out of necessity due to his availability on a free transfer rather than his ability to make a significant difference to the team.
The move has an air of desperation about it that belies Rangers’ financial troubles. For a club looking to reinstate itself as a major force, Coco appears an underwhelming target.
