Rangers Given Second Chance to Sign Barcelona’s Pablo Torre on Loan
Rangers have been handed an unexpected chance to revive their interest in Barcelona’s talented young midfielder Pablo Torre.
According to reports in Spain, the Catalan giants plan to loan out the 20-year-old attacking midfielder next season to aid his development.
La Liga leaders Barcelona will reportedly meet with Torre’s representatives this week to determine the next step in his career pathway.
Barcelona’s priority is finding a club that can offer Torre regular first-team action, with several Spanish clubs already expressing interest. However, a loan move to Rangers could prove an intriguing option.
While the physicality of the Scottish Premiership has overwhelmed many young imports, the benefits of a move to Ibrox for Torre are clear.
At Rangers, the Spain under-21 star would gain valuable experience of performing under intense pressure and expectations of success. He could follow the example of Bayern Munich loanee Malik Tillman, who has thrived this season.
In manager Michael Beale, Pablo Torre would work under a coach renowned for improving young attacking midfielders, having helped develop the likes of Tillman, Todd Cantwell, Ilias Chair and Chris Willock.
Rangers reportedly missed out on signing Torre when Barcelona acquired the highly-rated teenager from Racing Santander last summer in a £4 million deal.
However, with Torre having played just 40 minutes of La Liga action under Barcelona boss Xavi so far, the Catalans seem willing to temporarily part ways to boost his development.
Xavi has spoken glowingly of Torre, hailing him as a “natural talent” who “can play in midfield and out wide,” and praising his ambidextrous abilities, final ball, goalscoring prowess and set-piece delivery.
Rangers Could Provide the Perfect Development Opportunity for Barcelona’s Pablo Torre
At just 20, Pablo Torre may have an impact in Scotland similar to Celtic’s Jota, another skillful academy product who has flourished despite initial doubts over his physical suitability.
Rangers now have an unexpected second opportunity to capture a player once compared to Barcelona great Andres Iniesta.
For Torre, following in Iniesta’s footsteps by gaining experience in the UK, as the World Cup winner did at Albacete, could prove a shrewd career move. The chance is there for both parties; it remains to be seen whether they seize it.
