Rangers FC still have get through round two of the Europa League, but they learned their fate for round three today.

Rangers FC will be in Europa League action on September 17th when they travel to Gibraltar to face Lincoln Red Imps in the second qualifying round. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this stage of the competition will not include home and away legs, so Steven Gerrard’s men need to get the job done abroad.

Based on all the possible teams Rangers could have faced, the draw was a true blessing from the football Gods. Lincoln Red Imps are one of the weakest teams competing in the tournament.

This will allow Steven Gerrard to rest some of his key players to avoid injury and fatigue as this game has been scheduled five days after playing Dundee United, and three days prior to facing in-form Hibernian in Edinburgh.

All in all, Rangers will be expected to depart Gibraltar with a big victory in the bag. That being said, if Rangers get the job done and advance to the third qualification round, they will go up against the winner of the following game: Progres vs. Willem II.

Progres is a club from Luxembourg that actually eliminated Rangers from the same competition back in 2017, and managed to earn a 0-0 draw at home against Rangers in the second round last term, but Gerrard’s men got their revenge at Ibrox with a 2-0 victory to move forward.

Willem II are a respectable Dutch outfit that will require an elite performance from the Light Blues. Willem II have never won a game in a European competition, though, and Rangers will hope to keep that trend going.

Based on how the draw was made, Rangers would, once again, be the visitors in this clash. There is no room for error in this tournament as Rangers aim to prove their deep run during the 2019-20 campaign was no fluke.
