Rangers FC could sign a Scottish international winger for free if they act quickly.
Rangers Football Club are undefeated five games into the 2020-21 campaign. Rangers have done a solid job of dominating each game in every possible category, but they have one reoccurring problem: creativity.
Steven Gerrard needs creative players who can take matters into their own hands when nothing else seems to be working in the final third.
The 0-0 draw against Livingston last weekend is a perfect example of how Rangers occasionally struggle to find any rhythm and momentum in the final third.
As a result, it comes as no surprise that soon after that dreadful performance Rangers were immediately linked with Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy.
The 25-year-old has been loaned out in two consecutive seasons by both Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce. Murphy is a talented winger who would be a good fit for Rangers, but there is one other winger the club should strongly consider pursuing over Murphy.
That man is Scotland international Ryan Fraser. The winger spent the last four seasons of his career at Bournemouth, but he is now a free agent.
As a player who previously played in the Scottish Premiership for multiple seasons with Aberdeen, and was successful south of the border as well, Fraser would be extremely beneficial for Rangers.
Fraser experienced a dip in form last season, and so did the entire squad as they were relegated, but the winger managed to score 16 goals and provide 26 assists in four Premier League seasons.
Moreover, Fraser has become an integral player for the Scottish national team. At 26, Fraser is now in his prime as a player, and Rangers need players who aim to reach new heights, especially during this massive campaign.
Fraser had plenty of suitors from the top end of the Premier League table, but no formal action was taken. For the time being, Fraser’s representatives are entertaining offers from mid-table sides.
That being said, this is the perfect time for Rangers to join the race. They can offer Fraser the chance to return to Scotland, compete in Europe, and become a top earner at a club with a global following.
No reports have indicated that Rangers are even interested in Fraser, but it would be a smart move for the 54-time Scottish champions.
