Rangers FC could add St. Mirren’s goalkeeper on a free transfer this summer and though Allan McGregor is still one of the league’s best, it’s a smart move.

In a world without sporting competition there is still plenty of sport related business going on via telecommunications as nothing ever completely goes on pause behind the scenes. One element of this behind the scenes business that gets completed in a usually more public eye is player movement.

But given the current situation affecting not only sports globally but every other form of business to some degree or another, players won’t be traveling to take visits or sign contracts in person in this age of social distancing. So any moves for players, selling or purchasing will be done using video chat, phone calls and document signing software for the foreseeable future. And as the Rangers like others in the European soccer landscape wait anxiously to hear a ruling regarding the results of the current season from their governing bodies, they aren’t holding their breath and continue to look for future talent in a period of uncertainty.

One rumored Rangers’ target isn’t currently playing too far from Ibrox Stadium in nearby Paisley just eighteen minutes away with St. Mirren. That is current starting goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky who has been the talk of a rumored move to Rangers since January. The club won’t have to do any virtual tours of the grounds or anything like that given Hladky’s familiarity playing at Ibrox. But whether or not they can sign him away from St. Mirren before another match is played may be the real question.

His current 18-month deal with the Saints is due to expire this summer, making him a sought after talent who is one, familiar with the Scottish Premiership having over forty-seven appearances for the club since joining last January. And two, he was one of it’s best keepers in an unfinished 2019-2019 season finishing with ten clean sheets in domestic competition and fourteen in total.

Now with that said, Allan McGregor is still a very viable option for the Rangers at 38-years-old, with fourteen clean sheets himself in Premiership play alone and twenty-four overall in all competitions so far this season. But the fact of the matter is McGregor is 38-years-old. Plans need to be made to prepare for his departure and securing the 29-year-old Czech keeper should be Steven Gerrard’s to-do list in the coming months.

New leadership may signify the start of new era. dark. Next

Although sooner may be wiser than later as Hladky has Premier League aspirations and may take the next EFL Championship offer he gets to help get him there.
