Rangers have made another bolster to their midfield by adding Leicester City’s Andy King on loan for the rest of the season.

Veteran midfielder Andy King is on his way to Ibrox to play for Rangers for the rest of the season. The Welsh international had been with Leicester City for his entire professional career, making his first-team debut back in 2007 and remaining with the club until being sent on loan two years ago. He was a member of the legendary team that won the Premier League.

King has been loaned away from Leicester City each of the last two seasons. To Swansea City first, then to Derby County in the English Championship last season where he made just 4 appearances due to injury.

King is now 30 years old, which means that if he can stay healthy he should still have something in the tank for this season when he is called upon.

King is not likely to be a top-choice midfielder for Steven Gerrard, Rangers are suddenly very deep in the area, but he will make for an excellent depth player for the squad at the very least. King is a veteran of the English Premier League, and even if he lost a half-step to make him ineffective there, he still probably has some solid play left in him.

Given that he was a member of the Title-winning Leicester City team, he has played in high-pressure situations and moments, an experience that will be valuable as Rangers look to return to their former heights.

With King’s arrival, Rangers are fairly full in the midfield. They could still do with one more attacking wing (Ryan Kent, it isn’t too late baby) and left-back remains a question mark but this is yet another move that appears to be a smart depth play by Gerrard to have players on his bench that can be trusted to perform.
