The Premiership is on hold as the first knockout round of the Scottish League Cup is underway with plenty of Premiership teams in action.

Motherwell vs Hearts of Midlothian

In one of two matchups that feature two Premiership sides, Motherwell and Hearts of Midlothian will square off at Fir Park.

Motherwell had a great start to their Cup run and will look to regain their swagger after a tough start to the Premiership season for them. Hearts are going to try and use this match as a chance to get right after a poor start to their League season.

Celtic vs. Dunfermline Athletic.

Celtic against a minnow and it is at Park-Head. Celtic are, of course, coming off of a hugely disappointing showing against Cluj in Champions League Qualifying. There is a chance for Celtic to emphatically show that result was just a blip on the radar, but this is also a classic let-down match. That said, I can’t see Celtic actually losing, just it could easily end up being closer than it ought to be.

Forfar Athletic vs. Livingston.

Livingston have looked impressive in their first two Premiership matches but have yet to get their first win. Forfar are a League One side so hypothetically this should be a fairly easy match for Livingston but then again Livingston still have a very similar roster to the one that they had in League One a few years ago.

Hibernian vs. Greenrock Morton

Hibernian have a great chance to wash out the bad taste in their mouths leftover from the thrashing at Ibrox as they host Greenrock Morton at Easter Road. That said, Greenrock Morton is not likely to be a pushover. They are in the Championship and off to a good start in the second tier. So while Hibernian, at home, should have this match in control, it isn’t going to be a walkover.

Kilmarnock vs. Hamilton Academical

A rematch of the past weekends’ Premiership match will give Kilmarnock a chance to show some real signs of life for the first time this season and also a chance to avenge their 2-0 loss on the road last weekend.

Hamilton will probably lose because they only get enough results to barely avoid relegation and nothing more.

Patrick Thistle vs. Ross County

Should be a good matchup. Thistle is a championship side facing a recently promoted side and Thistle is at home. Ross County has looked solid in league play until this point and if they can comfortably get a result here it would help to cement that they may be legit.

Thistle will look for the upset and they have a real chance.

Dundee vs. Aberdeen

Aberdeen has had a rough week but Dundee should be a soft landing spot for the Dons.Dundee has looked decent in the Championship but we saw what happened against Premiership competition last season.

If Dundee could somehow manage to advance it would be a good sign for the fans that they really might be righting the ship this season after the disaster of last season. That would also be totally devastating for Aberdeen.

East Fife vs. Rangers.

It’s a Rangers blog go read our actual preview of the match.
