After transferring to Rangers from Kilmarnock, there has been some speculation as to how well Jones would fare in blue. The first leg against Midtjylland showed his quality.

Jordan Jones was announced as being on his way to Ibrox last season, much to the unhappiness of Kilmarnock fans when Jones was overly excited about the move on Twitter despite still being in a Kilmarnock jersey.

Jones is clearly a quality player, his pace on the ball is spectacular and he was a wonderful fit with Kilmarnock. Kilmarnock had preferred to sit back in organized defense for most of the match and then strike out on the counter when they got the chance, which is exactly where Jones thrives.

This is where the questions about how Jones would fare with Rangers come up. Rangers spend the vast majority of their Scottish matches making siege warfare against deep-set defensive boxes

WIthout the open space to attack, or regularly facing opponent attacks in order for him to counter, it wasn’t clear that Jones would have all that much value for Rangers.

Of course when Rangers face higher levels of compeitition, whether Celtic or in Europe, there would be opportunties, but it wasn’t clear that Jones is of the quality needed in order to properly hold up against high-quality sides.

All that fear was put to bed in Rangers 4-2 victory over Danish side Midtjylland in Europa League qualifying last week.

Jones had several huge runs to bust Rangers up the park, one of which he got an assist to Joe Aribo out of.

His pace is relentless and he surely has put any other teams on notice should they try to play in the field with Rangers, that he will open them all the way up on the counter.

It still isn’t clear that Jones will be all that useful against deep-set defenses. He made a positive impact as a substitute against Kilmarnock but time will tell. The good news is that he can certainly do the main job he was brought in for.
