An initial report that said the attacker was leaving for France has been squashed by Steven Gerrard.
Albanian attacker Eros Grezda, who was acquired from Croatian side Osijek last summer for a reported £2 million fee, had been reported by the Scottish Sun to be headed to France to play for Ligue 1 side Brest for a fee of £1.75 million.
Shortly after the report was made, however, Steven Gerrard squashed the rumors saying that no satisfactory bids have been made for Grezda.
Gerrard did not expand on his point other than to say Grezda is a talented player and some clubs have inquired about loans.
Given that Grezda never broke in at Ibrox last season, with no signs of change in pre-season, Rangers are likely to be eager to move Grezda. Which makes it doubtful that the reported offer was true.
That said, it would be rather heavily disappointing if that was a true offering and Gerrard turned it down. Altho perhaps Gerrard still has some hope that Grezda is able to become a contributor for Rangers.
If Grezda remains, he should at the very least provide some depth up front and insurance if a late bid for Alfredo Morelos were to be accepted. And Grezda did have one impressive brace in a 7-1 route of St Mirren last season.
That said, it seems unlikely. Grezda made no meaningful contribution last season despite being one of Gerrard’s first larger profile additions and hasn’t done so in the preseason this Summer. On top of that, there have been rumors that Grezda has had a bit of an attitude problem in the past.
Going forward, unless Gerrard truly sees potential in Grezda remaining with the club, if they manage to get even close to their money back on a player who made no contributions it would be welcome.
