Rangers disappoint again, drawing with lowly Dundee on the road.
With a supposed chance to gain some easy points and go to the top of the table, Rangers fell flat on their face on the road against Dundee.
Rangers got off to a strong start, controlling the ball well and creating several chances. Then on a through ball and a misplay by Connor Goldson Kenny Miller was able to poke the ball past Allan McGregor for a goal in just the 9th minute to put Dundee in the lead.
Following the goal, Rangers appeared to be unphased as they took control of the match right back and held possession in a dominating fashion. Until in the 21st minute, a Dundee defender was sent straight off for a dangerous tackle just outside the box on Ryan Kent and Andy Halladay hit home a brilliant free kick.
On the kick, Kyle Lafferty did his best acting job, showing very clearly that he intended to take it, meanwhile, Halladay appeared to simply be hanging around waiting. Then, suddenly, Halladay stepped up and struck the ball into the net.
At that point it appeared that the final was going to be a formality. Rangers had tied up the match with Dundee’s lone goal coming on a borderline fluke, and Rangers now had a man advantage,
It was not to be that way, however. Dundee fell back into a defensive shell and Rangers struggled to find enough creativity to break it, especially in the middle of the pitch.
The only thing that could really be said for them is that both Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield were missing from the match with suspensions, both of whom form the backbone of Rangers middle attack.
Still, there is really no excuse. Dundee is bottom of the table for a reason, and Rangers had a chance to go to the top of the table. The fact that Dundee played most of the match with 10 men only makes it worse.
